About
I have added a seperate page to try and explain my views when it comes to politics @Mattism, if you can understand what i am on about then well done! Otherwise, if you have read any of my posts or seen my links on the right hand side then i would imagine that you can easily guess my politics.
I am currently a post-graduate student in Portsmouth reading History of War, Culture and Society. I previously had graduated from Portsmouth University in 2008 gaining a BA (Hons) in History. I see myself as a human rights and environmental defender. I am a member of the Green Party and i would consider myself as eco-socialist, however i do become disillusioned with British politics, especially that of the Left, and the apparency of it’s failings.
So for a bit more about my background, let me start with my second year of University life, as that is where this blog would find it’s roots.
In 2006, i joined a group called People & Planet, and it changed my life. I soon became the Treasurer of my local uni group. In this same year i also developed my joy for writing, where i started writing for my university magazine.
By my third year i was the ‘President’ of my local P&P group, i had become a sub-editor for the university newspaper and magazine, i was the Environmental Officer for Portsmouth Student Union and i was the South Coast Regional Representative for People & Planet. I was a busy boy and i organised many campaigns and ran several events.
I then had a gap year between my graduate degree and my post-graduate degree. During this time i worked as a Civil Servant in the Rural Payments Agency in what was essentially the complaints department. I really enjoyed this job, learning about how things get done in this country – the civil servants run the country, the politicians make the civil servants job trickier. Anyway, during my stint at the RPA i was essentially a letter editor, and i also dabbled in writing letters for the Minister/SofS (obviously, they all had to be checked first before a Minister was happy to sign them).
Also during my gap year i became involved in Amnesty International via my local group in Reading, where at the first meeting i agreed to become their Media Officer – more or less straight away i had my local MP ‘having a go’ at me in the local press – success! Aside from this i became the Thames Valley Petanque Media Officer, became a committee member for the Fox and Hounds Petanque Club and also captained my local petanque sunday league team to 3rd in the league – not without some criticism of my team selections. (I have been playing petanque since 1999/2000, during this time i have played for Great Britain and England and have shelves full of trophies…)
Now i am back at Portsmouth University, i am already the Volunteering in Portsmouth’s Environmental Projects Co-ordinator and am trying to get involved in several other local groups as well as the university’s media again. (Although perhaps not to the extent as my third year as i do want to study this time).
If you would like to know more about me in terms of my ‘normal’ interests, or just to chat, then you can add me as a friend on facebook or follow me on twitter – click on the logos on the right. Otherwise, feel free to email me, once again the address is on the right.
